THE FOOD OF THE FUTURE

“The International Year of Pulses will raise awareness about the importance of pulses, essential crops for sustainable agriculture and nutrition.”

José Graziano da Silva

Direttore Generale della FAO

The FAO has declared pulses as “nutritious seeds for a sustainable future,” establishing the International Year of Pulses. Over these 12 months, governments and industry organizations will join forces to promote the importance of consuming and cultivating pulses worldwide. This is an opportunity to become active participants in a transformation that will ensure a fairer distribution of food resources for our planet in the years to come.

What does the International Year of Pulses mean for each of us?

The International Year of Pulses can be an opportunity to learn something new about ourselves and what we truly enjoy. Especially today, when we can have anything we want, it’s important to start wanting what’s actually good for us.

Simple, accessible, wholesome things like pulses.

Learning to appreciate them can help us realize that peace and happiness have always been right here, within reach.

Low in fat but rich in fiber and minerals, pulses offer significant health benefits. They help combat undernutrition and malnutrition by enriching both nutrient-poor diets and fat-rich diets in developed countries with essential vitamins and proteins for balanced nutrition. Their cultivation also improves overall soil health, promotes biodiversity, and supports the growth and adaptability of other crops.

Pulses, long present in culinary traditions around the world, are set to become key players in the kitchens of the future. To start spreading the importance of these ingredients today, Nuova ILTA S.r.l. supports numerous initiatives, including Pulses.org an international website dedicated to pulses, offering in-depth information and resources to better understand them.
